1. Dosage:
- Each tablet contains 100 mg of Mebendazole.
2. What Mebendazole is and what is it used for:
Mebendazole interferes with the cellular tubulin formation in the worm, thus disturbing the glucose uptake and the normal digestive functions of the worm to such an extent that an autolytic process occurs. It is an antiparasitic medication, it is used for the treatment of pinworms, whipworms, roundworms, and hookworms.
3. Warnings and Precautions:
Pregnancy and children less than two years of age are relative contraindications since safety has not been established, and not effective for hydatid disease.
4. Overdose:
Symptoms: In the event of accidental overdosage, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea may occur. Although the maximum recommended treatment duration of Mebendazole is limited to three days there have been rare reports of reversible liver function disturbance, hepatitis, and neutropenia described in patients who were treated for hydatid disease with massive doses for prolonged periods of time.
Treatment: There is no specific antidote through the first hour after ingestion, gastric lavage may be performed, and activated charcoal may be given if considered appropriate.
5. Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Mebendazole or its components.
